Imagine earning graduate credit while experiencing China's business environment, culture and economy! Student, alumni and faculty in Bluffton University's Graduate Programs in Business participated in a business study trip to China June 14-28, 2008.
Participants traveled to Beijing, the political and cultural center of China; to Shanghai, China’s largest city and the core of its economy; and Chongqing, a major player in China’s manufacturing sector.
The group toured Chinese manufacturing facilities, visit Chinese businesses, MBA programs, retail establishments; and examined the Chinese transportation and environments. Along the way they visited with local business people and discussed with them their experience with human resources, finance, production, and legal issues. They experienced China’s culture and, among other things, visited the Great Wall of China, the Forbidden City, the site of the 2008 Olympics, museums and cultural shows. Of course, they also enjoyed the tastes, sights and sounds that modern Chinese cities offer.
Dr. Karen Klassen Harder, professor of business and economics, served as educational/discussion leader. Myrrl Byler, director of Mennonite Partners in China, was the travel planner/tour guide/translator. Klassen Harder has traveled extensively outside North America, and Byler has 25 years of experience in leading trips to China. Harder's husband, Dr. James Harder, Bluffton president, also accompanied the group.
