Master of arts in education requirements

These courses (in this recommended order) form the foundation for the master of arts in education and must be completed by all students. Students then choose from one of the two concentrations of coursework to complete requirements for the MAEd.

MAEd Concentrations
Degree-seeking students will choose from one of the following two concentrations:

Intervention Specialist
This program prepares teachers to work with students with mild to moderate educational needs. Completing this concentration and passing the appropriate Praxis II assessments leads to a recommendation for an Intervention Specialist: Mild/Moderate K-12 license from the Ohio Department of Education. Courses include: Instructional Strategies, Classroom Organization, Issues, Collaborative Practices, and will have a practicum experience.

Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS)
This program focuses on the liberal arts component associated with Bluffton University. Courses include: American Studies, The World of Art, Topics in Children's and Adolescent Literature, Non-Western Studies, and the Exploration and Integration of Arts in the Curriculum. This concentration is recommended for teachers who wish to enhance their classroom teaching knowledge and skills.
